Pitt Softball Falls to Michigan But Goes Down Swinging

Pitt lost to Michigan 10-3 in today’s regional womens’ softball game at Michigan’s home field. Despite the loss, Pitt hung in after a 5-0 Michigan first inning and forced the Wolverines to play out the entire seven-inning game.

Pitt can be proud:

1. They were not expected to finish as strongly as they did in the ACC tournament, which included two surprise upsets.

2. They were not expected to be playing Florida State for the conference tournament championship.

3. They were not expected to be playing in an NCAA regional game.

4. They won their first-ever regional NCAA game and battled to a regional championship game.

5. They did not give up, but battled perennial power Michigan today even after being down 8-0 at one point.

6. There are a lot of underclassmen, including freshman pitcher Kayla Harris, who, after walking three batters and two batters in two innings respectively against Florida State in the conference tournament, came back to make outstanding showings in the regional tournament.

The opportunity to play against California and Michigan in the regional tournament was outstanding experience for the underclassmen and no doubt has now given them more confidence going into next season.
